Why Each Answer Is Correct

Understanding the reasoning behind each answer builds practical skill, not just test familiarity. Each explanation connects the concept to real workflow decisions.

Q1 — Keyword Research

Organic Traffic Estimate in Ahrefs

Ahrefs calculates an Organic Traffic estimate per page by summing the projected clicks from every keyword for which that page ranks. Domain Rating and URL Rating measure link authority, while Keyword Difficulty scores individual query competition — neither reflects actual traffic volume directly.

Q2 — Technical Audit

Screaming Frog as a Crawl Tool

Screaming Frog mimics a search engine crawler, following links across a site and cataloguing status codes, metadata, canonical tags, and redirect chains. Its output is a structured spreadsheet of crawl data — the starting point for most technical SEO audits before any manual investigation begins.

Q3 — Rank Tracking

Share of Voice as a Visibility Metric

Share of Voice aggregates estimated click potential across an entire tracked keyword set, then expresses how much of that total a domain captures. A domain ranking first for high-volume queries contributes far more to Share of Voice than one ranking sixth for the same terms.

Q4 — Link Analysis

Moz Spam Score and Penalty Risk

Moz derived Spam Score by analysing features shared by domains that Google has penalised or removed from its index. A high score on a linking domain is a signal to investigate further — it does not automatically mean the link is harmful, but it warrants manual review before accepting or disavowing it.

Q5 — Keyword Research

Google Search Console Performance Report

The Performance report in Search Console covers organic web search by default, showing impressions, clicks, average CTR, and average position for queries that triggered your pages in Google's organic results. Paid search data lives in Google Ads, not Search Console.

Q6 — Technical Audit

Soft 404 Pages

A soft 404 occurs when a server returns a 200 OK status but the page itself is empty, shows a "not found" message, or holds negligible content. Search engines may eventually stop indexing these pages because the 200 code misleads crawlers into expecting valid content that does not exist.

Q7 — Link Analysis

Link Intersect for Prospecting

Link Intersect identifies domains that have linked to two or more competitors but not to your own site. These prospects are already predisposed to linking within your niche, making outreach more likely to succeed than cold approaches to entirely unrelated domains.

Q8 — Rank Tracking

Mangools Dominance Index

The Dominance Index combines the tracked positions for a set of keywords with their respective search volumes to produce a single score reflecting overall search presence. A site ranking in position 3 for a query with 12,000 monthly searches contributes more to the index than one ranking in position 8 for a query with 400 searches.

Where to Go After the Quiz

Start With One Tool, Not Five

Picking a single platform — Ahrefs, SEMrush, or Moz — and learning it thoroughly produces more reliable output than switching between tools for every task. Each platform has its own data methodology, and switching mid-audit introduces inconsistencies that are hard to explain to stakeholders. Spend at least four weeks on one tool before adding a second to your workflow.

Read the Changelog

SEO platforms update their metrics and algorithms regularly. Checking release notes monthly keeps your interpretation of the data accurate.

Audit a Site You Own

Running a full technical audit on a personal or test domain lets you implement fixes and observe the outcome without risk to a client project.

Common Misreading

Domain Rating and Domain Authority are not interchangeable — they use different link graph calculations. Comparing DR from Ahrefs with DA from Moz across two sites produces misleading conclusions.

Track Baseline First

Before any optimisation, record current rankings, traffic, and crawl errors. Without a baseline, measuring the effect of changes is guesswork.
